Astra Microwave Products Limited (AMPL) was founded in 1991 by a team of scientists specialising in RF, microwave and digital electronics, alongside project management. Over more than three decades, the Company has built a strong reputation as a designer and manufacturer of high-performance RF and microwave modules, sub-systems and systems, catering to the stringent requirements of the defence, space and meteorology sectors.
AMPL has steadily climbed the product value chain through investments in infrastructure, talent and captive testing facilities. Its infrastructure includes multiple works units across Telangana, a state-of-the-art R&D centre in Bengaluru, and advanced antenna testing ranges. The Company’s services include EMI-EMC testing and antenna radiation measurement, while its capabilities span Build-to-Specifications, Build-to-Print and contributions under Make in India.
The Company’s clientele covers defence, aerospace, space exploration, homeland security, meteorology and unmanned vehicles. Subsidiaries include Bhavyabhanu Electronics Private Limited (India), Aelius Semiconductors Pte. Ltd. (Singapore), Astra Private Limited and Astra Space Technologies Private Limited. Its joint venture, Astra Rafael Comsys Private Limited, supplies Software Defined Radios and Electro-Optic products in collaboration with Rafael Defence Systems of Israel.
Milestones include contributions to all major Indian satellite launches since 2008, development of indigenous MMICs from 2005 onwards, entry into Electronic Warfare in 2000, and the delivery of a Precision Approach Radar to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in 2025. Today, Astra is recognised as a future-ready company contributing to India’s defence and space ambitions.

Notable deliveries included a Precision Approach Radar to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, seekers and EW modules for defence applications.
Strategic initiatives included collaborations with start-ups for advanced technologies such as counter-drone systems, electronic warfare modules and ground penetrating radars. The Company invested in advanced training, deepened indigenisation efforts, and reinforced its role as a system-level integrator.
Recognition for its efforts came through awards such as the Aerospace and Defence Award, ELCINA Award (2024), and SIATI Aerospace Award (2022).
Employee strength stood at 1,491 as of March 31, 2025, with over a quarter of employees having served more than two decades.
