Oil India Limited (OIL), incorporated in 1959, traces its roots to India’s first crude oil discovery at Digboi in 1889. Over six decades, it has evolved from a conventional exploration and production company into a diversified, integrated energy enterprise aligned with a long-term Vision 2040 strategy, spanning upstream, refining (through subsidiaries), pipelines and clean energy initiatives.

- The Group’s primary products and services are organised as Crude Oil, Natural Gas, Petroleum Products (refinery), LPG, Pipeline Transportation and Renewable Energy, which form its reporting segments.
- OIL operates across key Indian geographies—Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Nagaland—along with offshore activity in the Andaman, Kerala-Konkan and KG shallow waters. As on March 31, 2025, it was operating in 1 PEL and 25 PML nominated areas, and pursuing exploration in 26 OALP blocks covering 52,298 sq. km. Internationally, OIL maintains a presence in producing and development assets across Russia, Venezuela and Mozambique through joint ventures, and maintains an overseas office at Libreville, Gabon.
- A year of milestones saw OIL record its highest-ever oil and oil-equivalent gas production of 6.710 MMTOE, and its highest-ever natural gas production of 3,252 MMSCM in FY 2024–25, reflecting sustained operational momentum. The Company further strengthened its resource base, adding 5.8714 MMToE (2P) of reserves during the year.

- Record production: OIL delivered its highest-ever O+OEG output of 6.710 MMTOE and highest-ever natural gas production of 3,252 MMSCM in FY 2024–25.
- Exploration footprint: The Company executed 444.46 LKM of 2D and 1,150.82 sq. km of 3D seismic, and advanced airborne geophysical surveys to refine basin understanding in the Assam–Arakan Basin.
- Acreage wins: OIL secured all nine blocks under OALP Bid Round IX; six as Operator and three jointly with ONGC, with Revenue Sharing Contracts signed on April 15, 2025.
- Reserves and discoveries: Added 5.8714 MMToE (2P) in FY 2024–25; made two discoveries in Mechaki PML (Assam) and established hydrocarbons for the first time in the North Bank of the Brahmaputra through exploratory well Kobochapori-1.
- Flaring reduction: Achieved a 59% cut in flaring, abating nearly 2,79,000 tCO₂, supported by 11 new gas compression facilities and evacuation lines; progressing towards the “Zero Flaring 2025” goal.
- Clean energy and new fuels: NRL is developing a 200 KTPA Sustainable Aviation Fuel project at Paradip (HEFA route) and a 2.4 KTPA green hydrogen plant targeted for commissioning in 2025.
- Renewables platform: Incorporated “OIL Green Energy Limited” on January 31, 2025; formed JV “APGCL OIL Green Power Limited” on February 21, 2025 for solar projects totalling 645 MW in Assam.
- Critical minerals: Secured its maiden critical mineral block (graphite and vanadium) in Arunachal Pradesh; later secured the Jorkian–Satipura–Khunja Amalgamated Potash and Halite Block in Rajasthan; signed MoUs with MECL, KABIL and IREL to jointly explore and process critical minerals in India and abroad.
- Bio-energy: Target to establish 25 Compressed Biogas plants nationwide; groundbreaking for four plants in Assam on October 2, 2024; land acquisition and tendering progressed at multiple sites.
- CGD expansion: HPOIL operated 30 CNG stations with 21,005 PNG connections in Ambala–Kurukshetra and 29 CNG stations with 38,914 PNG connections in Kolhapur; PBGPL commissioned 15 CNG stations and expanded PNG in Assam; new GA win in Nagaland in the 12th CGD bidding round.
