Indian domestic aviation soared to new heights in November 2024, with IndiGo setting a historic record by flying over 10 million passengers in a single month. According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the month marked the highest-ever domestic air traffic in India's history, underscoring the aviation sector's robust growth.

InterGlobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo), India's largest airline, became the first in the country to carry over 10 million passengers in a month. Of these, 9.07 million were domestic travelers, while the rest flew internationally. This achievement surpassed the airline's previous record of 8.64 million passengers in October 2024 and pushed its market share to a staggering 63.6%. IndiGo’s growth highlights its dominance, even amid pressures of demand normalisation and yield challenges noted in its recent financial results.

Air India also saw significant milestones, flying 3.47 million passengers in November, aided by its recent merger with Vistara. Despite this achievement, Air India’s market share dipped slightly to 27.3% from 29.2% in October. Meanwhile, Akasa Air recorded its best-ever monthly performance, reflecting strong momentum across the aviation sector.

As December unfolds, airlines are poised to continue this upward trajectory, with IndiGo and Air India expected to further consolidate their leadership in Indian aviation, as per market reports.
