State-owned Oil marketing companies (OMCs) announced that the prices of 19-kg commercial liquified petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders will be reduced effective January 1, 2025, bringing some much needed relief to commercial users. In Delhi, the price reduction is ₹14.50, bringing the cost down to ₹1,804 as compared to ₹1,818.50 in December 2024.
Such reductions are effective over other major metropolitan areas as well. In Mumbai, the downward revision in price is ₹15, thus taking the price from ₹1,771 in December 2024 to the latest price of ₹1,756. In Kolkata, the price has been brought down by ₹16 to ₹1,911 from ₹1,927 last month. Chennai saw a price reduction of ₹14.50 to ₹1,966 as against the earlier price of ₹1980.50.
Even as the price reduction may not seem drastic, it will ease the burden for businesses that rely heavily on LPG cylinders, including caterers, restaurants, etc. Operational costs may come down slightly.
The commercial LPG prices over the previous three months did not see any major fluctuations as, in November 2024, the price in Delhi was ₹1,802, in Kolkata it was ₹1,911 and in Chennai it was ₹1,966. However, prices in Mumbai were consistently maintained below the ₹1,800 mark, easing the pressure on the users.
Furthermore, the Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices have also been brought down across the four metro cities listed above, effective January 1, 2025, bringing some respite to the domestic airlines. Delhi’s new ATP price is ₹90,455.47 per kilolitre, down by ₹1,401.37 per kilolitre from December’s rate of ₹91,856.84 per kilolitre. Kolkata saw a price reduction of ₹1,419.84 per kilolitre to ₹93,059.79 per kilolitre from ₹91,551.63 per kilolitre.
Chennai saw the sharpest reduction in ATF price, which fell by ₹1,560.77 per kilolitre, bringing the price to ₹93,670.72 per kilolitre from ₹95,231.49 per kilolitre earlier. Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, boasts the lowest ATF price among the metros, which now stands at ₹84,511.93 per kiloliter, decreasing by ₹1,349.09 per kilolitre from ₹85,861.02 per kilolitre in December 2024.
